Job Description:

Summary:

The person in this position will need to be a highly competent and motivated individual who thrives in a fast paced and demanding environment. We are looking for a person with solid experience managing monthly accounting close processes to tight deadlines, managing reports, financial analysis’, cash management, accounts payable and receivable, general ledger, payroll, accounting for investments, budget development, reporting systems, bank liaison and reporting, and external audit support ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and requirements.

The Director of Accounting will work closely with and manage the overall accounting functions for the company. Ideal candidates will have 5+ years construction accounting experience and 3+ years of public accounting experience. A bachelor’s or master’s degree in accounting is preferred. CPA is a definite plus!

Experience and Skills:

Job Duties and Functions:

  • Ensures accurate and timely cost accounting activities including Work-In-Process, accruals, and journal entries;
  • Hires, supervises, coaches, develops, retains, and prioritizes the work flow for the competent accounting team;

  • Establishes and maintains effective internal controls and safeguards for invoicing/receipt of revenue, costs, purchase orders, program budgets and actual expenditures;

  • Provides clear and concise monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements;

  • Consistently analyzes financial data and presents financial reports in an accurate and timely manner;

  • Monitors progress and changes and keeps senior leadership abreast of financial status

  • Assists leadership team in the annual budgeting and planning process;

  • Administers and reviews all financial plans and compare to actual results with a view to identify, explain, and correct variances as appropriate;

  • Oversees all financial, project/program accounting; ensured that expenditures are consistently aligned with budgets throughout the fiscal year;

  • Coordinates all compliance and financial audit activities;

  • Coordinates and provides significant input and subject matter expertise in setting the Company’s financial strategy to related to profit maximization, cash management, cost reduction, and taxes;

  • Effectively utilizes Company ERP/accounting system (Viewpoint/Vista) for data capture and reporting eliminating use of manually created spreadsheets wherever possible;

  • Ensures preparation for and supervises year-end audits with external auditors;

  • Oversees optimal and timely tax planning, filing, and compliance for ownership;

  • Manages budget processes and advises the executive team of any liabilities and risks;

  • Ensures accurate and timely reconciliations to include bank accounts, taxes, sales, liability expenses, vendor accounts, revenue, work-in-process and job costing;

  • Reconciles complex ledger accounts and contract information;

  • Participates with leadership and strategic planning;

  • Reviews customer and vendor contracts related to ensure accuracy and compliance;

  • Ensures the company is in compliance with financial policies and GAAP;

  • Identifies, investigates, and reports on variances to key management personnel;

  • Develops, modifies, reviews, and implements accounting procedures and controls;

  • Prepares, reports on, and recommends strategy to optimize capital expenditure and financing;

  • Develops and monitors business performance metrics;

  • Ensures costs incurred are properly accumulated within cost accounting system;

  • Assists and prepares documents and reports for annual financial audits;

  • Ensures timely collection on invoices and address untimely payments effectively;

  • Assesses current accounting operations and recommends appropriate safe-guards , processes, and tracking controls
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

Position Specific Requirements:

  • Valid state driver’s license (May travel to job sites);
  • MA or BA with 4+ additional years of experience;

  • 5+ years effectively using ERP/accounting software systems;

  • 7+ years being fully responsible for entire accounting and finance for organization;

  • Strong analytical, problem solving, and time management skills;

  • Advances knowledge using Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook;

  • Strong knowledge of federal and state accounting practices, laws, and rules;

  • Understands of all aspects of fund control including safeguards and tracking controls;

  • Strong oral and written communication skills;

  • Public accounting experience with CPA is preferred;

  • Solid experience managing monthly accounting close process to tight deadlines, managing reporting, financial analysis, accounts payable and receivable, general ledger, payroll, accounting for investments, budget development, and external audit support.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • This position may have five or more direct and/or indirect supervisory responsibilities. It is the Supervisor’s duty to mentor, train, develop, support, and set direction for their team. The Supervisor will act as a communicator and will be a resource to improve processes and quality. It will also be the Supervisor’s job to introduce, demonstrate, and review the Company’s Core Values/Leadership Principles with their team.

  • This job operates in the office. This role routinely uses office tools, office supplies, computers, and phones. It may also routinely operate a vehicle.
